Overall good, grandson loves it. I have mixed feelings about this set. Pros: it looks great; it has lots of details and interesting areas/accessories; it is compatible with brand name bricks and was easy enough for an 8 year old to build with minimal help; and, my grandson absolutely loves it. Cons: it is a little out of proportion for standard sized minifigures/horses (slightly too small); many of the cool accessories are not easy to even see once the build is done; the instructions call for assembling in sequences that are not as practical as they could be (but that didn't bother my grandson); the numbers on the different bags of bricks do not correspond to the instruction steps (pieces for a step are found in several different bags); the colors of some pieces do not match the instructions (and one brick especially was not the same but did work - see photos); step #188 required a "fix" (adding a grey square stud in two places so the sloped pieces were all flush), we had to find the needed pieces among bricks we already owned; the chains fall off the spokes when turned (that rolls them up to lift the drawbridge); and, the price is a bit high for a set with so many cons (I will not be buying the companion set). However, my grandson had a couple of medieval minifigures with horses (see photos) and he wanted this castle SO much, and then he had a wonderful time building it (he was so proud of himself - it's the largest set he's built on his own). Afterwards, he played happily with it until time to go home. So overall I'm rating it "good" with 4 Stars. TIP: open all bags and sort pieces by color/shape before building in order to cut down on the time and frustration of looking for what is needed.
